Description

These caramel apple puff pastries are a sweet and flaky treat featuring tender spiced apples wrapped in buttery puff pastry and topped with rich caramel sauce. A quick and cozy dessert perfect for fall or any time of year.

Ingredients

  • 1 package (2 sheets) puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and diced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1/3 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade), plus more for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch. Cook for 5–7 minutes until the apples are tender and the sauce thickens. Let cool slightly.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface and cut each sheet into 4 squares.
  4. Spoon the apple filling into the center of each square. Fold into triangles or rectangles and press the edges with a fork to seal.
  5. Brush the tops with the beaten egg and place the pastries on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 15–20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
  7. Let cool slightly and drizzle with warm caramel sauce before serving.

Notes

  • Add 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts for crunch.
  • Use 1 cup canned apple pie filling for a quicker version.
  • Add 1 tablespoon cream cheese in the center for a creamy surprise.
  • Dust with powdered sugar instead of caramel for a lighter finish.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temp for 2 days or refrigerated for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5–7 minutes for best texture.
  • Freeze unbaked pastries and bake straight from frozen, adding a few extra minutes.
