Description
Rich and gooey layered dessert bars made with a buttery oat crust, melted chocolate, and a soft caramel center for a comforting, bakery-quality treat.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup caramel candies
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt.
- Add melted butter and stir until fully combined.
- Press half of the mixture firmly into the bottom of the pan and bake for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, melt caramel candies with heavy cream over low heat, stirring until smooth.
- Remove the base from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over it.
- Pour the warm caramel mixture on top and sprinkle walnuts if using.
- Crumble the remaining oat mixture over the top.
- Return to oven and bake for 15–20 minutes until golden.
- Allow to cool completely before slicing into bars.
Notes
- Let bars cool fully to ensure clean slices and set layers.
- Use dark chocolate for a richer flavor variation.
- Add a pinch of sea salt for a salted caramel twist.
- Pecans can be substituted for walnuts.
- Microwave for 10–15 seconds to restore gooey texture.
