Description

These cinnamon sugar soft pretzels are a sweet, chewy twist on the classic snack. With a golden crust, fluffy interior, and a buttery cinnamon sugar coating, they’re perfect for cozy afternoons or party platters.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar (for yeast)
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda (for water bath)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve active dry yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Divide the dough into 8 pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and shape into pretzels.
  6. In a large pot, bring 6 cups of water and 1/4 cup baking soda to a boil. Dip each pretzel in the bath for 20 seconds, then transfer to the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. While still warm, brush pretzels with melted butter and toss in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.

Notes

  • You can make the dough ahead and refrigerate overnight.
  • To reheat, bake in a 300°F oven for 5–7 minutes.
  • Brush with fresh butter and sugar after reheating for best flavor.
  • Try adding a cream cheese filling or a vanilla glaze for extra indulgence.
