Description
A classic homemade cornbread that is sweet, moist, and perfect as a side or snack.
Ingredients
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup melted butter (or oil)
- 2 tbsp honey (optional for extra sweetness)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease an 8″ square baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix milk, eggs, melted butter, and honey (if using).
- Pour wet ingredients into dry and stir until just combined.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Do not overmix the batter to keep the cornbread tender.
- For extra moistness, add a bit of sour cream or yogurt.
- Serve warm with butter and honey.
