Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup cornstarch (plus 1 tbsp for sauce)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- Oil for frying
- 1/2 cup honey
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar or white vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
- Season chicken pieces with salt and pepper.
- Coat each piece in cornstarch, dip into beaten eggs, then coat again in cornstarch.
- Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the chicken in batches until golden and cooked through. Set aside on paper towels.
- In a saucepan, combine honey, garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, and water.
- Bring to a simmer and stir in a slurry made with 1 tbsp cornstarch and 2 tbsp water until the sauce thickens.
- Toss the fried chicken in the sauce until fully coated.
- Serve hot, garnished with green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
- Use tamari or gluten-free soy sauce for a gluten-free version.
- Add chili flakes or sriracha for a spicy kick.
- Bake at 400°F for a lighter version, turning halfway through.
- Great with jasmine rice, noodles, or stir-fried vegetables.
