Ingredients
- 2 ¾ cups (345 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
- Food coloring (various colors)
- 2 cups (240 g) powdered sugar (for icing)
- 2–3 tablespoons milk or lemon juice (for icing)
Instructions
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
- In another bowl, cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, mixing well.
- Gradually mix in dry ingredients until a soft dough forms. Add milk if needed.
- Wrap and chill the dough for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Roll out dough to ¼ inch thickness on a floured surface.
- Cut into flower shapes and place on lined baking sheets.
- Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
- Cool completely before decorating.
- Mix powdered sugar with milk or lemon juice to make icing.
- Divide icing, add colors, and decorate cookies. Let icing set before serving.

- Chilling the dough helps cookies keep their shape.
- Use gel food coloring for vibrant icing colors.
- Dough can be made a day ahead and refrigerated.
