Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups (345 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • 2 cups (240 g) powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 23 tablespoons milk or lemon juice (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  2. In another bowl, cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, mixing well.
  4. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until a soft dough forms. Add milk if needed.
  5. Wrap and chill the dough for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  7. Roll out dough to ¼ inch thickness on a floured surface.
  8. Cut into flower shapes and place on lined baking sheets.
  9. Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  10. Cool completely before decorating.
  11. Mix powdered sugar with milk or lemon juice to make icing.
  12. Divide icing, add colors, and decorate cookies. Let icing set before serving.
