Description

Crispy, golden Northern Irish pasties filled with seasoned minced beef and mashed potatoes, delivering a comforting chip shop classic at home.

Ingredients

  • 500 g potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 250 g minced beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 100 g breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Boil the diced potatoes in salted water until tender, then drain and lightly mash, leaving some texture.
  2. In a pan, cook the minced beef with chopped onion until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat and let cool slightly.
  3. Combine mashed potatoes with the beef mixture. Add salt, pepper, paprika, and parsley. Mix well.
  4. Shape the mixture into flat oval patties.
  5. Coat each patty in flour, dip in beaten egg, and cover with breadcrumbs.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry until golden brown on both sides.
  7. Remove and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the mixture is not too wet to prevent falling apart.
  • You can substitute beef with chicken or turkey for a lighter option.
  • Add garlic powder or Worcestershire sauce for extra flavor.
  • For a vegetarian version, use mushrooms and carrots instead of meat.
  • Best reheated in the oven to maintain crispiness.
