Description
Crispy, golden Northern Irish pasties filled with seasoned minced beef and mashed potatoes, delivering a comforting chip shop classic at home.
Ingredients
- 500 g potatoes, peeled and diced
- 250 g minced beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 egg, beaten
- 100 g breadcrumbs
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- Boil the diced potatoes in salted water until tender, then drain and lightly mash, leaving some texture.
- In a pan, cook the minced beef with chopped onion until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat and let cool slightly.
- Combine mashed potatoes with the beef mixture. Add salt, pepper, paprika, and parsley. Mix well.
- Shape the mixture into flat oval patties.
- Coat each patty in flour, dip in beaten egg, and cover with breadcrumbs.
- Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry until golden brown on both sides.
- Remove and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the mixture is not too wet to prevent falling apart.
- You can substitute beef with chicken or turkey for a lighter option.
- Add garlic powder or Worcestershire sauce for extra flavor.
- For a vegetarian version, use mushrooms and carrots instead of meat.
- Best reheated in the oven to maintain crispiness.
