Description

This French Onion Beef Rice Casserole is a hearty, comforting dish featuring ground beef, savory onion flavor, creamy soups, tender rice, and melty mozzarella cheese—perfect for an easy, family-friendly meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) dry onion soup mix
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed French onion soup
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup uncooked long grain white rice
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, for browning the beef)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked. Add olive oil if using lean beef. Drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in dry onion soup mix and Worcestershire sauce until beef is evenly coated.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine French onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, uncooked rice, and black pepper.
  5. Fold in the seasoned beef mixture.
  6. Pour mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and spread evenly.
  7. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 50 minutes.
  8. Remove foil, sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the top, and bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Mix in cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese for a cheesier version.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers for extra veggies and flavor.
  • Make it spicy with red pepper flakes or hot sauce.
  • Can be assembled ahead of time and baked later.
