Description

A rich and comforting twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak, combining juicy ground beef, sautéed peppers and onions, and melty cheese served on toasted buns.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 1 small red bell pepper, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (240 ml) beef broth
  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded provolone cheese (or mozzarella)
  • 4 brioche or hamburger buns, toasted
  • 2 tablespoons butter (optional, for toasting buns)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, cook diced onion and bell peppers until soft and slightly caramelized.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Return the cooked beef to the skillet and stir to combine.
  5. Add Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  6. Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir to coat evenly.
  7. Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring. Simmer until the sauce thickens.
  8. Reduce heat and stir in shredded cheese until melted and creamy.
  9. Spoon the mixture onto toasted buns and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Ground turkey can be used as a lighter alternative.
  • Cheddar or American cheese can replace provolone for different flavors.
  • Add mushrooms for extra depth and savoriness.
  • Include chili flakes or hot sauce for a spicy kick.
  • Toast buns with butter to prevent sogginess.
