Description
A rich and comforting twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak, combining juicy ground beef, sautéed peppers and onions, and melty cheese served on toasted buns.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, finely diced
- 1 small red bell pepper, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (240 ml) beef broth
- 1 cup (100 g) shredded provolone cheese (or mozzarella)
- 4 brioche or hamburger buns, toasted
- 2 tablespoons butter (optional, for toasting buns)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, cook diced onion and bell peppers until soft and slightly caramelized.
- Add minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Return the cooked beef to the skillet and stir to combine.
- Add Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir to coat evenly.
- Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring. Simmer until the sauce thickens.
- Reduce heat and stir in shredded cheese until melted and creamy.
- Spoon the mixture onto toasted buns and serve immediately.
Notes
- Ground turkey can be used as a lighter alternative.
- Cheddar or American cheese can replace provolone for different flavors.
- Add mushrooms for extra depth and savoriness.
- Include chili flakes or hot sauce for a spicy kick.
- Toast buns with butter to prevent sogginess.
