Description

This homemade cough syrup with lemon, pineapple, and ginger is a natural remedy that soothes sore throats and calms coughs. It’s made with immune-boosting ingredients like bromelain-rich pineapple, vitamin C-packed lemon, and anti-inflammatory ginger.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh pineapple juice (or blended fresh pineapple)
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 12 tablespoons raw honey (optional)
  • 24 tablespoons water (if needed for consistency)

Instructions

  1. Grate the fresh ginger and set it aside.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine the pineapple juice, lemon juice, and ginger.
  3. Bring the mixture to a light simmer over medium heat for 5–10 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  5. If using honey, stir it in once the mixture has cooled slightly.
  6. Let the mixture cool completely, then strain into a clean glass jar or bottle.
  7. Store in the refrigerator and shake well before each use.

Notes

  • Add cayenne pepper for a sinus-clearing effect.
  • Turmeric can be used for additional anti-inflammatory benefits.
  • Sweeten further or mix into herbal tea for children.
  • Use fresh juice for maximum nutritional benefits.
  • Skip honey for children under 1 year old.
