Description

Sweet mini fritters made with apples and cinnamon, lightly fried and topped with sugar or glaze

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all‑purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 cups apples, peeled, cored, and chopped into small pieces
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or similar)
  • Powdered sugar or glaze for finishing

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a frying pan or pot over medium heat until it’s hot (but not smoking).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg and mix with the milk.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir just until combined; don’t overmix.
  5. Fold in the chopped apples into the batter.
  6. Drop small spoonfuls of batter (mini fritter‑sized) into the hot oil—only a few at a time so oil temperature remains steady.
  7. Fry until fritters are golden brown on one side, then flip and cook until the other side is golden; both sides should be crisp.
  8. Remove fritters with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  9. While still warm, optionally dust with powdered sugar or dip/drizzle with glaze.
  10. Let cool slightly and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use apples that hold their shape when fried (e.g. Granny Smith or similar tart/sweet apple).
  • Don’t overcrowd the frying pan, or the oil temperature will drop and fritters become greasy.
  • Test oil by dropping a small bit of batter—if it sizzles and rises quickly, it’s ready.
  • For variation, add nutmeg or vanilla extract for extra flavor.
  • If you want a lighter version, these can sometimes be baked or shallow‑fried.
