Description

Possum Pie is a classic Southern layered dessert featuring a buttery pecan crust, tangy cream cheese, rich chocolate pudding, and fluffy whipped topping—perfect for holidays or gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 cups whipped topping or heavy cream, divided
  • 2 (3.9 oz) packages instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 3 cups cold milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: extra chopped pecans or chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, melted butter, and chopped pecans. Press the mixture into the bottom of a baking dish.
  3. Bake the crust for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Let it cool completely.
  4. In another bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Blend in powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Fold in 1 cup of whipped topping.
  5. Spread the cream cheese mixture over the cooled crust.
  6. Whisk together chocolate pudding mix and cold milk until thickened. Spread over the cream cheese layer.
  7. Top with the remaining whipped topping.
  8. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
  9. Garnish with chopped pecans or chocolate shavings if desired.
