Description
A comforting Salisbury steak recipe featuring tender beef patties simmered in a rich, savory gravy—perfect for cozy family dinners or impressing guests.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or Italian)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- In a bowl, gently mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until just combined.
- Shape the mixture into oval patties approximately 3/4 inch thick.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the patties for about 4 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
- Remove the patties. In the same skillet, whisk flour into the drippings to form a roux.
- Slowly stir in beef broth until smooth to create the gravy.
- Return the patties to the skillet and simmer for 5 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
- Serve hot, drizzled with the savory gravy, ideally with mashed potatoes or buttered noodles.
Notes
- Do not overwork the meat to ensure tenderness.
- Use cold ingredients to maintain patty texture.
- Add mushrooms or sautéed onions for variation.
- Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- Reheat with a splash of beef broth for moisture.
