A comforting salted caramel apple pie with tender spiced apples, rich caramel drizzle, and a flaky homemade crust balanced with a hint of sea salt.
Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
- 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- ½ cup caramel sauce
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Add ice water gradually until dough forms.
- Divide dough into two discs and chill for 30 minutes.
- In another bowl, toss apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Let sit.
- Roll out one dough disc and place into a pie dish.
- Add apple filling, drizzle caramel sauce, and sprinkle sea salt.
- Roll out second dough and place over pie. Seal edges and cut slits on top.
- Brush with egg wash (egg mixed with milk).
- Bake at 190°C (375°F) for 50–60 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Cool before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for best flavor.
- Add nuts like pecans or walnuts for extra texture.
- Let pie cool completely to help filling set.
- Store covered at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate up to 5 days.
- Reheat in oven to maintain crisp crust.
