Description

A comforting salted caramel apple pie with tender spiced apples, rich caramel drizzle, and a flaky homemade crust balanced with a hint of sea salt.

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ cup caramel sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Add ice water gradually until dough forms.
  2. Divide dough into two discs and chill for 30 minutes.
  3. In another bowl, toss apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Let sit.
  4. Roll out one dough disc and place into a pie dish.
  5. Add apple filling, drizzle caramel sauce, and sprinkle sea salt.
  6. Roll out second dough and place over pie. Seal edges and cut slits on top.
  7. Brush with egg wash (egg mixed with milk).
  8. Bake at 190°C (375°F) for 50–60 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  9. Cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for best flavor.
  • Add nuts like pecans or walnuts for extra texture.
  • Let pie cool completely to help filling set.
  • Store covered at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate up to 5 days.
  • Reheat in oven to maintain crisp crust.
