Description
A quick and hearty Irish-inspired ground beef and cabbage dish made in one pan, packed with savory flavors and ready in just 30 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 small green cabbage, chopped (about 4 cups)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) beef broth
- 2 medium carrots, sliced
- 2 medium potatoes, diced (optional)
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened, then add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Stir in salt, pepper, smoked paprika, thyme, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Add carrots and potatoes (if using) and cook for about 5 minutes.
- Add chopped cabbage and pour in beef broth.
- Cover and cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are tender.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey for a lighter version.
- Add a splash of cream for extra richness.
- Include red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
- Stir in a bit of butter before serving for a more traditional flavor.
- Avoid overcooking cabbage to keep it from becoming soggy.
