Description
A hearty and comforting Irish-inspired skillet meal made with flavorful ground beef, tender cabbage, and simple seasonings, ready in just 30 minutes for an easy weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small head green cabbage, chopped (about 6 cups)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 medium carrots, sliced (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until softened. Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it up with a spoon and cook for 5 to 7 minutes until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease if necessary.
- Stir in the sliced carrots (if using) and chopped cabbage.
- Pour in the beef broth and add the salt, black pepper, dried thyme, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Cover and simmer for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Remove from heat and serve warm.
Notes
- For a lighter option, substitute ground turkey for ground beef.
- Add diced potatoes for a heartier dish; increase cooking time and broth as needed.
- A splash of apple cider vinegar can add brightness and depth.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Freeze for up to 2 months and thaw overnight before reheating.
