Description

This homemade slow cooker Chex Mix is a crispy, savory snack mix made with a blend of cereals, pretzels, and seasonings. It’s cooked low and slow for rich flavor and perfect crunch without needing the oven.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups rice Chex cereal
  • 3 cups corn Chex cereal
  • 2 cups wheat Chex cereal
  • 2 cups pretzels
  • 2 cups bagel chips
  • 1 cup Bugles
  • 1 cup peanuts
  • 10 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2½ teaspoons seasoned salt
  • 1¼ teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. Add the cereals, pretzels, bagel chips, Bugles, and peanuts to a large slow cooker.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Slowly pour the butter mixture over the dry ingredients while gently stirring to evenly coat.
  4. Cook on low for 3 hours, stirring every 30 minutes during the first two hours and every 15–20 minutes in the last hour.
  5. Place a clean cloth or paper towels under the lid or slightly tilt the lid to absorb condensation and keep the mix crisp.
  6. Spread the mix on parchment paper to cool completely before storing.

Notes

  • Use a kitchen towel under the lid if your slow cooker doesn’t vent to prevent sogginess.
  • Swap in other snacks like cheese crackers, goldfish, oyster crackers, or Cheerios for variety.
  • Add cayenne or hot sauce for a spicy version.
  • Stir in candy-coated chocolates or honey-roasted peanuts after cooling for a sweet-and-salty mix.
  • Adjust ingredients to make it nut-free or gluten-free.
