Description

Steak Queso Rice is a hearty and comforting dish made with seared steak, creamy queso cheese sauce, and seasoned white rice, perfect for a satisfying weeknight dinner or customizable meal prep.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 4 cups cooked white rice
  • 1 cup queso cheese sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup diced green chilies or jalapeños (optional)
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season the sliced steak with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear steak slices for 2–3 minutes per side until browned and cooked to desired doneness.
  3. In a separate saucepan or microwave, heat the queso cheese sauce until smooth and pourable.
  4. Reheat or freshly cook white rice and distribute among serving bowls or plates.
  5. Top each serving of rice with cooked steak slices.
  6. Drizzle hot queso sauce generously over the steak and rice.
  7. Optionally, garnish with diced tomatoes, chilies or jalapeños, and chopped fresh cilantro.

Notes

  • Swap steak for grilled chicken or shrimp for a lighter version.
  • Spice it up with pepper jack cheese or hot sauce in the queso.
  • Add sautéed peppers, onions, or corn for more veggies.
  • Use brown rice or cauliflower rice for a healthier option.
  • Transform into a burrito bowl with black beans, avocado, and shredded lettuce.
