Description

Rich and crispy smash burgers served on buttery croissants with melty cheddar cheese, savory onions, pickles, and a creamy burger sauce for an unforgettable flavor combination.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 4 large croissants, sliced in half
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 pickle slices
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Lettuce leaves for serving

Instructions

  1. Divide the ground beef into 4 equal balls without overworking the meat.
  2. Mix the mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard together in a small bowl to create the burger sauce.
  3. Heat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and lightly coat it with vegetable oil.
  4. Place the beef balls onto the hot skillet and smash them flat using a sturdy spatula or burger press. Season the patties with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  5. Cook the patties for about 2 minutes until the edges become crispy, then flip them and immediately top with cheddar cheese slices. Cook for another 1 to 2 minutes.
  6. In a separate pan, sauté the onions in butter until soft and lightly caramelized.
  7. Lightly toast the croissant halves on the skillet until golden.
  8. Spread the burger sauce onto the croissants, then layer lettuce, cheesy smash patties, onions, and pickles.
  9. Top with the croissant halves and serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Use 80/20 ground beef for the juiciest smash burgers with crispy edges.
  • Toast the croissants lightly to help prevent sogginess.
  • Pepper jack or Swiss cheese can be substituted for cheddar.
  • Add jalapeños, sautéed mushrooms, or caramelized onions for extra flavor.
  • Store leftover patties separately from croissants for best texture.
  • Reheat patties in a skillet for the best crispy texture.
