Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until just combined.
- Shape the mixture into 4 to 6 oval patties.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the hamburger steaks for 4 to 5 minutes per side until browned and fully cooked. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Slowly pour in the beef broth while whisking constantly until smooth.
- Stir in the heavy cream, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper.
- Simmer the sauce for 3 to 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Stir in the fresh dill.
- Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet and spoon the sauce over them.
- Simmer for another 5 minutes to blend the flavors.
- Serve warm with extra creamy dill sauce.
Notes
- Do not overmix the beef mixture to keep the patties tender.
- Ground turkey can be substituted for a lighter version.
- Add sliced mushrooms to the sauce for extra flavor and texture.
- Dried dill can be used instead of fresh dill; use about 2 teaspoons.
- If reheating, add a splash of broth or cream to loosen the sauce if needed.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
