Description

Juicy hamburger steaks served in a rich and creamy dill sauce, perfect for a comforting family dinner. This hearty dish pairs wonderfully with mashed potatoes, rice, or roasted vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into 4 to 6 oval patties.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the hamburger steaks for 4 to 5 minutes per side until browned and fully cooked. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Slowly pour in the beef broth while whisking constantly until smooth.
  6. Stir in the heavy cream, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper.
  7. Simmer the sauce for 3 to 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  8. Stir in the fresh dill.
  9. Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet and spoon the sauce over them.
  10. Simmer for another 5 minutes to blend the flavors.
  11. Serve warm with extra creamy dill sauce.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the beef mixture to keep the patties tender.
  • Ground turkey can be substituted for a lighter version.
  • Add sliced mushrooms to the sauce for extra flavor and texture.
  • Dried dill can be used instead of fresh dill; use about 2 teaspoons.
  • If reheating, add a splash of broth or cream to loosen the sauce if needed.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
