Description

A quick and comforting one-pan chicken sausage orzo dish made with creamy broth, tender pasta, and simple flavorful ingredients, perfect for an easy weeknight meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 300 g chicken sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup (200 g) dry orzo pasta
  • 2 cups (480 ml) chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 cup (30 g) fresh spinach
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced chicken sausage and cook for 4–5 minutes until golden brown.
  3. Add chopped onion and cook until softened.
  4. Stir in minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Add dry orzo and toast lightly for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  6. Pour in chicken broth, then add salt, pepper, paprika, and oregano. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  7. Cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until orzo is tender and liquid is mostly absorbed.
  8. Lower heat and stir in heavy cream, spinach, and Parmesan cheese until creamy.
  9. Add lemon juice, stir well, and adjust seasoning if needed before serving.

Notes

  • Stir occasionally to prevent orzo from sticking.
  • Add extra broth or milk when reheating to restore creaminess.
  • Customize with vegetables like mushrooms, zucchini, or cherry tomatoes.
  • For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes.
  • Can substitute chicken sausage with turkey or vegetarian sausage.
