Description
A festive no-bake dessert made with crispy rice cereal, marshmallows, and butter, layered in red, white, and blue for patriotic celebrations like Independence Day, Memorial Day, and Labor Day.
Ingredients
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal, divided
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
- 15 ounces mini marshmallows, divided (about 3 bags of 5 ounces each)
- Red gel food coloring, a few drops
- Blue gel food coloring, a few drops
- Nonstick cooking spray, as needed
Instructions
- Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- For the red layer, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan over low heat. Add 5 ounces of marshmallows and stir until smooth. Mix in red food coloring.
- Remove from heat and stir in 2 cups of Rice Krispies cereal until fully coated.
- Press the red mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- For the white layer, repeat using 2 tablespoons butter, 5 ounces marshmallows, and 2 cups cereal without food coloring. Spread gently over the red layer.
- For the blue layer, melt remaining butter and marshmallows, then add blue food coloring and mix in remaining cereal.
- Spread the blue mixture over the white layer and press lightly to even the surface.
- Let the treats cool completely at room temperature.
- Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
- Do not overheat marshmallows to keep treats soft and chewy.
- Press layers gently to avoid making them too dense or hard.
- Gel food coloring is preferred for vibrant colors without changing texture.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- Add sprinkles, candy-coated chocolates, or white chocolate drizzle for variation.
