Description

A tangy and bold Carolina mustard BBQ sauce made with mustard, vinegar, and a touch of sweetness, perfect for grilling, marinating, or dipping.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup yellow mustard
  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a medium saucepan.
  2. Whisk together until smooth and fully combined.
  3. Place over medium-low heat and simmer gently for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Taste and adjust seasoning as desired (more honey for sweetness or vinegar for tang).
  5. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before using or storing.

Notes

  • Add hot sauce for extra heat if desired.
  • Molasses can be used instead of part of the honey for deeper flavor.
  • Dijon mustard can be substituted for a sharper taste.
  • Flavors improve after resting for a day.
  • Great as a marinade, glaze, or dipping sauce.
