Description
Sweet, tender, and glossy candied pineapple infused with rich syrup and tropical flavor, perfect as a dessert or topping.
Ingredients
- 1 medium fresh pineapple, peeled, cored, and cut into chunks (about 4 cups / 600 g)
- 1 cup granulated sugar (200 g)
- 1/2 cup water (120 ml)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Prepare the pineapple by peeling, coring, and cutting it into evenly sized chunks.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water, stirring until fully dissolved to form a syrup.
- Bring the syrup to a gentle simmer, then add the pineapple chunks.
- Cook for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pineapple becomes soft and translucent.
- Add honey, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt, stirring to combine.
- Optionally add vanilla extract and cinnamon for extra flavor.
- Continue cooking for another 10–15 minutes until the syrup thickens and coats the pineapple.
- Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly; the syrup will thicken further as it cools.
- Serve warm or store for later use.
Notes
- Fresh pineapple gives the best texture and flavor, but canned can be used if well drained.
- Add grated ginger for a spicy twist.
- Substitute part of the sugar with brown sugar for a deeper caramel flavor.
- Orange juice can replace lemon juice for a different citrus profile.
- If syrup thickens too much during storage, add a splash of water when reheating.
