Description

The Viral Onion Boil Recipe transforms simple sweet onions into a rich, buttery, and flavorful comfort dish. Baked until tender and caramelized, these onions soak up savory seasonings and melted butter, making them perfect as a side dish, snack, or addition to any hearty meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 large sweet onions
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Aluminum foil for wrapping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Peel the onions and trim the top and bottom ends while keeping the onions whole.
  3. Use a spoon or small knife to hollow out the center of each onion slightly.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, Cajun seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Place each onion on a sheet of aluminum foil and spoon the butter mixture into the center and over the top of the onions.
  6. Wrap each onion tightly in foil and place them in a baking dish.
  7. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes until the onions are soft and tender.
  8. Carefully unwrap the onions and sprinkle with parsley and Parmesan cheese if desired.
  9. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Sweet onions work best because they become soft and caramelized when baked.
  • Add shredded cheddar cheese during the last few minutes of baking for a creamy variation.
  • For extra spice, add crushed red pepper flakes or more Cajun seasoning.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in the oven at 350°F for 10 to 15 minutes for best texture.
  • The onions can also be cooked in an air fryer at 375°F for 30 to 35 minutes.
